Travelling abroad has never been easier to navigate, especially when your phone can help break down language barriers in real time.
Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones continue to push AI further, with Galaxy AI designed to make everyday experiences more useful and intuitive.
One of the standout features is Live Translate — Samsung’s built-in translation tool that helps you communicate naturally across different languages.
Whether you're calling a hotel in Barcelona, ordering food in Seoul, or trying to organise transport after landing, Live Translate works directly inside supported apps to help conversations flow more naturally.
And with football fans travelling across borders for major international tournaments and the road to the World Cup building momentum, it’s a feature that could become an unexpected travel essential.
What is Live Translate?
Live Translate is a Galaxy AI feature that provides real-time voice and text translation during supported phone calls and conversations.
It can translate spoken conversations into your chosen language while displaying text on-screen, helping both people follow the conversation more easily.
The experience is designed to feel seamless — allowing you to speak naturally while Galaxy AI handles translation in the background.
Use Live Translate during phone calls.
Need to call a restaurant, hotel or transfer service abroad? Live Translate works directly inside supported phone calls.
- Open Settings
- Tap Galaxy AI
- Select Call assist
- Turn on Live Translate
- Choose or download your preferred languages
To start translating...
- Open the Phone app
- Select a contact or enter a number
- Start the call
- Once connected, tap Call assist → Live Translate
- Follow the translated text and audio during the conversation
You can customise languages and voice styles via:
Phone → More options → Settings → Live Translate
Tip: Only one person should use Live Translate at a time to help avoid translation conflicts. For best results, make sure the selected language matches the language being spoken.
Use Live Translate for in-person conversations.
If you’re travelling and speaking face-to-face, Galaxy AI’s Interpreter feature can help translate conversations. Perfect for checking into accommodation, ordering food, or asking locals for recommendations.
- Swipe down to open Quick Settings
- Tap Interpreter
- Select your languages and allow permissions
- Open Conversation mode
- Tap the microphone to begin translating
Your conversation appears translated across the screen in real time. You can also switch to Listening mode for live speech translation when only one person is speaking.
Need to save the conversation? Copy the transcript and paste it directly into Samsung Notes for later.
Use Chat Translation with Messages.
Messaging someone abroad? Galaxy AI can translate conversations directly inside supported messaging apps.
- Open a supported messaging app (such as Google Messages or WhatsApp)
- Open or start a conversation
- Tap the Writing assist or Chat assist icon on the keyboard
- Select Chat translation
- Choose your languages
Translations appear in real time as messages are sent and received. You can switch languages at any point during the conversation. If Chat translation doesn’t appear, go to:
Settings → Security and privacy → More privacy settings → Enable Android Personalisation Service
You can also use additional Galaxy AI writing tools for tone adjustments, spelling and grammar suggestions while messaging.
Use Dual Screen Interpreter on Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip.
On foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip range, the Interpreter app takes advantage of dual screens and Flex Mode for more natural, face-to-face translation — ideal when travelling or interacting with people in different languages.
- Open the Interpreter app
- Select your preferred languages
- Fold the device to enable Flex Mode
- Tap Conversation mode (two chat bubbles)
- Tap the microphone next to your language to start live translation
The screen displays both languages at the same time, making conversations easier to follow from either side.
You can also switch to the Cover screen view, so translations appear externally — useful when showing the other person the conversation without turning the device around.
Why it’s useful for travel.
Travelling abroad often means navigating situations where small misunderstandings can become frustrating — confirming bookings, checking transport details, arranging excursions or simply ordering dinner.
Galaxy AI helps remove some of that friction so you can focus more on the experience. If you're heading overseas for summer holidays, city breaks or future World Cup fixtures, it’s one less thing to think about before you leave.
