Find out how to get the best possible experience from your Huawei P40.
Huawei has hit it out the park once again with its new P40 series – with better cameras than before, even when you wondered how they’d top the P30 Pro, as well as new 5G data capabilities.
But 5G isn’t the only thing that’s new. The Huawei P40 series comes pre-installed with Huawei’s exciting new AppGallery – instead of the Google Play Store.
What that means is there may be certain apps you’re used to using on Android that you won’t be able to access on a Huawei P40 mobile. But don’t let that stop you.
Huawei P40 and P40 Pro run on Android 10 AOSP (Android Open Source Project), skinned with Huawei’s EMUI10 software.
The experience is just like what Huawei and Android users have been used to, on mobiles like the P30 series, only you head to Huawei’s own AppGallery for your everyday apps for socialising, entertainment and all the other things you love doing on your phone.
What Apps Are Available in the AppGallery?
Huawei’s AppGallery launched this year in 2020, as an alternative to the Google Play Store. They claim it’s the home of your favourite apps, now better, safer, and more fun.
It’s already skyrocketing with over 390 million active users in over 170 countries worldwide. And, most importantly, it’s already packed full of apps – more than 45,000 and growing.
A bunch of the household apps are already on board, like Booking.com, Amazon and The Times, with official links to apps like WhatsApp and Facebook downloads also available.
If you can’t find a particular app you’re looking for, you can add it to your Wish List, which Huawei review to inform what new apps they should introduce to their growing AppGallery.
How do I get Android apps on my Huawei P40?
Rather than waiting for Huawei to review your Wish List, though, you can transfer apps from your old mobile over to your new Huawei P40 quickly and easily using the Phone Clone app.
Simply install Phone Clone on both your old and new phone, connect the two devices within the app, scanning a QR code, and transfer your data over.
Huawei have even put together a video to demonstrate the Phone Clone app in action.
If for whatever reason you struggle with the Phone Clone app, Huawei are open to supporting wherever possible. They’ve posted a handy guide and support thread on their UK community forum for P40 and P40 Pro customers.
