Poor Wi-Fi will never be an issue again.
Subtitles are a topic much like Marmite – you either love them or hate them. We for one, can’t get enough of them.
There’s something so soothing about having the words appear at the bottom of a Netflix show.
If everyone’s asleep and you’re catching up on the soaps you’ve missed, subtitles are a great way of keeping the volume down without missing a moment of the action.
For those of you who’re iPhone users and spend most of their time on FaceTime, there will have been a number of times where subtitles would come in super-handy.
The Wi-Fi being rubbish is one excellent example. When you can’t quite tell entirely what the person on the other end is saying, a little helping hand never hurt anyone.
Subtitles are also incredible for those with hearing difficulties or individuals who find it hard to follow spoken English.
For these moments, there’s a nifty little trick that allows you to get live subtitles on every one of your FaceTime calls.
Introducing Navi.
Navi is a companion app for FaceTime and can be downloaded on your iPhone, iPad and even your Mac.
Those of you following all the iOS updates will have heard of SharePlay, the FaceTime feature that brings movies, TV shows and music into your calls.
Navi uses SharePlay in order to generate subtitles on calls with your nearest and dearest. The app is free to download but will only translate subtitles into the language of your choice.
If you want live translations, there’s an extra cost of £3.99 for up to 100,000 characters and £14.99 for up to 250,000 characters – so it all depends on how much you have to say.
Before you get started, you’ll want to ensure that your iPhone or whatever Apple product you’re using is up to date with the latest version of iOS.
1) Open Navi and make a FaceTime call.
2) Click the captions icon to enable subtitles.
Navigate your way to Navi.
If your New Year’s resolution is to read more, Navi has your back. We all love a good FaceTime, and this companion app is not only super fun but also beyond useful in a number of scenarios.
Like we said, the app is free to download, but you need the latest version of the software to go ahead and of course you must be using an iPhone.
If you’re in the market for a new iPhone to test this out on, look no further. Our January Sale is alive and kicking and we’ve got a number of unmissable deals on the very best iPhones, including iPhone 13.
