It’s the battle of the budget mobiles.

Apple unveiled their much anticipated iPhone SE on 8th March, which delivers premium technology for a budget price.

In the true spirit of rivalry, Samsung revealed their brand new Galaxy A53 a week later. Samsung’s Galaxy A series is known for being a little lighter on the wallet.

But how do both of these new mobiles compare with each other? We decided to look at each devices’ display, camera, design and performance.

You’ll finally be able to answer the question Android or Apple?

The battle of the designs.

iPhone SE comes equipped with a better drop performance, packing the same glass as iPhone 13. This adds an extra layer of durability which will give you that extra peace of mind. You’ll be getting a tougher design, for a lower price.

The IP67 rating for water and dust resistance compliments this beautifully – making those every day accidents, a worry of the past. Likewise, the Galaxy A53 also boasts an IP67 rating, so both mobiles prove to be perfect for those more clumsy than most.

We can all lie and say that the colour of a mobile doesn’t matter, but the truth is, it really does. You’re paired with your mobile for at least 2 years, so you want to choose the perfect one for you.

Samsung Galaxy A53 takes the lead when it comes to the variety of colours available. You can choose from Awesome Blue, Awesome Black, Awesome White or Awesome Peach. Which is pretty, well, awesome if you ask us.

Despite having less options, iPhone SE does come in three stunning colours. Keep things classic with midnight or add a daring touch of colour to your life with (PRODUCT)RED. One colour that’s caught our eye is the brand new starlight.

It’s the perfect combination of colour and sparkle and if you don’t want to branch out with anything too in your face, it’s ideal.

The battle of the displays.

The new iPhone SE masters the art of boasting top display technology but on a smaller scale. The 4.7-inch Retina HD display makes everything come to life.

iPhone SE is a perfect option for those who prefer something smaller.

It offers the best of both worlds, cinematic quality content but on a mobile that fits right in your pocket. Even in those jeans that are super skin-tight.

For some, bigger displays are the way forward. And in this case, the Galaxy A53 would take the win. The FHD+ Super AMOLED display measures in at 6.5-inch, giving you more display to enjoy the latest films, TV and games.

The battle of the cameras.

iPhone SE comes with one single rear camera lens and an epic selfie cam. It’s the perfect mobile for those who want to strip things back to basics, and by basics we mean without all the complicated lenses.

One lens doesn’t mean that you don’t get quality photos that look professional. The A15 Bionic chip, which we’ll get onto later, has lots of different computations that’ll deliver great shots.

Smart HDR 4 refines contact, lighting and skin tones for up to four people. This means every person is captured at their best angle.

Getting more detail in your shots is easy with the iPhone SE.

Deep fusion will study exposures pixel by pixel, which essentially means you get more details and textures in every photo.

The 7MP front camera packs a lot of artsy features too. Portrait mode, lighting with six effects and photographic styles. Getting a perfect pic for the gram is easy peasy.

If you are a sucker for lots of different lenses to switch through, the A53 is your best bet. It packs an advanced quad camera system with a lens for literally every occasion.

The whopping 64MP lens packs optical image stabilisation, which means shaky hands will have no effect on the result of your shots.

Throw in a ultra-wide, depth and macro lens and you’ll be able to capture photos that look as though they belong in an art gallery.

Selfie lovers are better off checking out the Galaxy A53 and its epic 32MP front camera. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be all that photogenic, this camera is sure to get your best side.

The battle of the performance.

Our mobiles are practically glued in our hands, and with technology just getting more advanced as time goes on, we use them for everything.

For many people, performance is the most important thing to consider. Luckily for you, both of these mobiles pack one hell of a punch – especially considering they’re both light on the old purse strings.

Both iPhone SE and Samsung Galaxy A53 come equipped with 5G, which is a major breakthrough for budget mobiles.

Getting online, and in more places too, is super simple. Whether you’re gaming, browsing or streaming.

iPhone SE does pack the same incredible chip as iPhone 13 – A15 Bionic. This delivers up to 1.2x faster graphics, leaving any lag and buffer in the past once and for all.

The Galaxy A53 certainly comes with its own power too though. With a 5nm processor, this mobile is built to hack heavy multitasking.

Storage is hella important when it comes to your mobile phone. There’s simply nothing worse than when that little message appears telling you that you’ve used it all.

Luckily for you, both of these mobiles come with a hefty amount of room to store all of the things that you love.

You can get the Galaxy A53 with either 128GB or 256GB of storage, meaning you can choose an option that’s right for you. With up to 1TB of external storage too, you’ll never see that little pop up again.

iPhone SE has options too, but they’re slightly smaller than those of the Galaxy A53. You can get the 64GB variation or the 128GB variation. But with no external storage options, short of paying extra on the cloud, this is definitely something to think about.

With the amount of time we spend on our mobiles, you need one that’s built to last. We’re not just talking about design, you want the battery to keep you going all day long.

The Galaxy A53 boasts a whopping 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging. This means you’ll be able to use your mobile until your heart is content and if you do run low, get boosted back up in no time at all.

Apple keep things a little bit hush when it comes to their batteries. What we do know is that the A15 Bionic, iOS 15 and a more enhanced battery, bring you a huge boost in battery life.

When it comes to fast charging, iPhone SE does boast 20W, which is 5W less than the Galaxy A53. However, it’ll still get you from 0 to 50% in as little 30 minutes.

Choose your winner.

We physically cannot pick a winner on this one. Both iPhone SE and the Galaxy A53 boast a number of features that revolutionise the way we look at budget mobiles.

The good news is that when you’ve decided which is the one for you, you can get your hands on yours with free delivery.
