Here are some dates for your calendar.

In the market for an upgrade or a new mobile entirely? We’re here to help you decide when to make your decision.

It turns out there are actually certain dates throughout the year that are the best time to make your next purchase.

This handy guide will answer those questions sat right at the front of your mind. Should I upgrade now? Should I wait a little while longer? What if there’s an even newer one around the corner? What if the prices drop in a month?

We’ve explored key industry dates and brought you a few pointers to help you decide when the best time is to buy your new mobile – whether you’re an Android or iPhone user.

What’s around the corner for Apple?

The world-renowned Apple keynote is on everyone’s calendar – it may even be on Samsung user’s radar.

We’re always asking, ‘what will the tech giant bring out next?’. The anticipation is insane and after the release of their iPhone 12, this is only growing.

On average, Apple host three to four events a year depending on what they have up their sleeve. There’s often a spring event in March or April and this year’s event saw the release of the iPhone 12 and 12 mini in a stunning, perfect purple finish.

The iPhone 12 mini was the return of the good small phone.

Then there’s the Worldwide Developers Conference held in June. This event is an information technology conference and often reveals software updates and new opportunities on the horizon.

We then have to wait until September/October for the next event. Often at this event, we see new iPhones or Apple Watch updates with the occasional iPad or MacBook thrown in there too.

This is the event you’ll want to keep an eye on. Every year Apple have something bigger and better going on. Like we said, last year it was the iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. The day Apple met 5G.

This year we’ve heard rumours flying around about an iPhone 13 but of course in true Apple fashion, they haven’t confirmed a thing yet.

Of course, Apple likes to occasionally throw in a surprise or two, like in April 2020 when they announced a new iPhone SE.

What we’re saying folks is if you’re in the market for a new iPhone, we’d suggest holding your horses until September time for the latest model. If you’re wanting to wait for prices to drop, we’d suggest holding off until springtime.

Android anticipation.

Apple aren’t the only big dogs in the mobile game. Android are famous for releasing huge system updates throughout the year with incredible design and functionality improvements that are set to make our lives easier.

If you’re looking to upgrade and get your hands on a mobile with the latest version of Android, you’ll want to start shopping at the end of summer – as this is when Android announcements take place.

There are a number of different mobiles that support Android which means you have a lot of choices available to you.

Each brand holds events at different points in the year. If you’re a Huawei fan, you’ll want to hold off on your upgrade until their event in March/April.

If you’re super-stoked about Samsung, which so many of you are, there are a few events to be aware of.

The pattern over the past few years is that they hold an event in February where they often announce the next big flagship mobile. This year however, Samsung treat us a little earlier and unveiled the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra.

The S20 FE was announced September 2020, but many people are hoping its successor follows the pattern of the S21 and appears sometime in August.

It seems the key dates to look out for if you’re stir-crazy for Samsung is January/February time and September/October.

Savings galore.

In the mobile phone market, pay monthly prices can change as the days and weeks go by. If you’re asking us when you can get the cheapest deal, things get a little blurry.

Of course, older generation models will naturally become cheaper with time, but that’s hardly convenient if you need a new phone now.

Prices on handsets will change regularly and often have other perks assigned to them like lots of data or network perks such as free BT Sport or Apple Music.

So, if there is a rule here, it's that you should get the new mobile you're after when you want it, rather than trying to outsmart the market. Why wait when you could have it the very next day?

That being said, there are key events throughout the year that might make it easier to bag a bargain.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the two that scream out to us but then you’ve also got the January sales and Christmas discounts – all of which are perfect times to look for a new phone.
